What is collected when you read this site, why, and what you can do about it.

This policy explains what information Screen Level collects when you read the site, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be understood rather than to satisfy a lawyer, and it describes the site as it actually operates.
The short version
- No account is required and none is offered.
- We do not ask for your name, address or telephone number.
- Information about readers is never passed to anyone else, in exchange for anything or otherwise.
- Aggregate statistics tell us which articles are read. They do not identify individuals.
Information collected automatically
Like any website, our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested: the address of the page, the date and time, the referring page if any, and general details about the browser and operating system making the request. These records exist so the site can be delivered reliably and so we can detect faults and abuse. They are retained for a limited period and then discarded.
Analytics
Measurement runs only if you allow the audience measurement category; the code is not loaded at all until then. Where it is allowed, we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles readers find useful. The measurement is aggregate: page views, referring sources and broad geographic regions at country level. It does not build a profile of any individual reader, does not follow readers to other websites, and is not used for advertising.
Cookies and consent
Optional storage on this site is switched off until you choose otherwise. On a first visit a notice appears with three equally available answers — accept everything, reject everything optional, or choose category by category — and your answer can be changed at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer. The categories, their purposes and their lifetimes are set out in full in the cookie policy.
Screen Level sets no cookies of its own for tracking or profiling. Your browser may keep ordinary technical items such as a cached copy of a page, which is standard behaviour for every site you visit and can be cleared at any time from your browser's settings.
If a future feature ever requires a cookie, this page will be updated to describe it before that feature appears.
Third-party content
The site loads typefaces from a third-party font service so that pages render as designed. When your browser requests a font, that service receives the request in the ordinary way a web request is received. No other third-party resources are embedded: there are no social widgets, no comment systems, no tracking pixels and no video players.
Where an article links to an external site, that site's own privacy practices apply once you follow the link. We have no control over them and no visibility into them.
Messages you send us
If you write to us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to answer it and to keep a record of any correction it prompted. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list and we do not share addresses with anyone else.
Children
This site is a general-audience technical reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information relates to you, to request a copy, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Because the site collects so little, in most cases the honest answer is that we hold nothing beyond a message you sent us. You are welcome to ask, and to ask us to delete that message.
Changes to this policy
If the site's practices change, this page will be revised and the date at the top will be updated. Material changes will be described rather than quietly incorporated.
